The announcement coincides with the news that Dubai has been selected to host the fifth edition of the Silk Road International Poetry Festival, scheduled to take place from May 23rd to 29th, 2025. This marks the first time an Arab city will host this distinguished international literary event, further cementing Dubai's position as a global hub for cultural exchange and artistic innovation. The award ceremony is slated to be a highlight of the festival and will be held at the iconic Mohammed bin Rashid Library on May 27th.

The World Silk Road Forum lauded Sheikh Mohammed not only for his extensive and impactful poetic works, primarily in the Nabati tradition, but also for his transformative vision that has positioned Dubai as a modern-day nexus, bridging East and West. This contemporary interpretation of the Silk Road's ancient role as a conduit for trade and cultural exchange resonates deeply with the Forum's objectives.

A renowned poet, Sheikh Mohammed's verses are celebrated for their eloquence, wisdom, and profound connection to Arab heritage and contemporary issues.7 His collections of poetry, which often explore themes of leadership, patriotism, love, and the human condition, have garnered widespread acclaim both regionally and internationally. Notable among his published works are "Zayed" (2018), a poignant collection of 87 poems paying tribute to the UAE's founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and his enduring legacy. Other significant contributions include "40 Poems from the Desert" (2011) and "Flashes of Verse" (2014), many of which have been translated into multiple languages, allowing a global audience to connect with his insights. His deep love for equestrianism is also passionately expressed in his collection "For the Love of Horses," celebrating their nobility and spirit.

Literary critics and scholars often point to Sheikh Mohammed's ability to seamlessly blend traditional Arabic poetic forms with contemporary relevance. His work is seen as a vital contribution to the rich tapestry of Arabic literature, inspiring a new generation of poets and writers. The World Silk Road Forum specifically acknowledged his role in preserving and promoting Nabati poetry, a vernacular form deeply rooted in the Bedouin traditions of the Arabian Peninsula.

In their citation, the Forum stated, "His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum embodies the spirit of the Silk Road in its modern incarnation. His leadership has transformed Dubai into a vibrant crossroads of cultures and ideas, much like the ancient trade routes fostered exchange and understanding. Beyond his visionary governance, his poetic voice resonates with a power and authenticity that transcends borders, offering wisdom and inspiration. He is a true beacon for poets and literary figures across the nations connected by the historic and contemporary Silk Road."

The selection of Sheikh Mohammed has been met with widespread commendation from literary circles and cultural organizations. Many see this honor as a testament to the UAE's burgeoning influence in the global cultural landscape and its commitment to nurturing arts and literature. The Mohammed bin Rashid Library, a state-of-the-art facility inaugurated in 2022, stands as a monumental testament to his dedication to knowledge, culture, and the written word, housing millions of books and serving as a vibrant center for learning and cultural events.14

The upcoming Silk Road International Poetry Festival in Dubai is anticipated to attract over 50 distinguished poets, artists, and writers from across the globe, representing diverse cultures and literary traditions. The week-long event will feature poetry readings, panel discussions, workshops, and art exhibitions, celebrating the unifying power of poetry and its ability to foster dialogue between civilizations. Hosting the festival underscores Dubai's commitment to becoming a leading global center for cultural and intellectual exchange. Previous editions of the festival were held in cities such as Madrid, Moscow, and various locations in China, each contributing to the revival of the Silk Road's cultural legacy.
